Dart Estuary Environmental Management (DEEM) - Accessibility statement
We aim to make our web site accessible to as many people as possible. Every effort has been made whilst building this site, to make it as accessible as possible for people who use screen readers and for users of text-only browsers, following principles laid down by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). We aim to provide useful content that's laid out in an easy-to-navigate way. Specific measures we have taken include -
- Designing the site for an 800x600 view so horizontal scrolling is not required
- The use of meaningful ALT text for all images to provide descriptive text.
- The use of descriptive hyperlink text.
- Avoiding the use of frames, which are difficult for special browsers to interpret and can 'break' the back button.
- The use of 'easy to read' non-serif font type, size and colour.
- Providing a site map.
- The use of access keys.
Access keys
Access keys are keyboard shortcuts which allow a user to navigate a web site without using a mouse or other pointing device. This can sometimes be quicker and may assist those with motor skill difficulties.
In Internet Explorer 5+:
'alt + the access key number' brings focus to the element.
In Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape 6+:
'alt + the access key number' take the user to the linked destination.
If using an Apple Mac:
Substitute the 'Ctrl' key for the 'Alt key'.
